- We took in an older dog that has anxiety from his past, combine that with uncertainty and three other pup brothers and we quickly learned that this device was going to be something that we needed. We tried the non shock devices, and they just plain didn’t work. This device was a life changer. Most times we use the vibrate mode as a code to him that barking isn’t needed at this particular time, since we don’t want him to lose his “protection voice “ we limit ourselves to only using the collar when it appears warranted. We lost the remote to the original collar we ordered , and after a few weeks of not being able to find it we decided to purchase another , having that collar as a backup. I was sad when it arrived cut, meaning someone must have returned it after putting it on their smaller dog. I emailed the company but haven’t heard back on anything. With that being said, I would purchase again and continue to purchase because of the product itself. So far the customer service id say has been less than my liking.
- This collar has been great for my pup and battery lasts a long time and actually waterproof. Highly recommend!
- We (Pepper and Me) have had this collar for three years and it works just as advertised.
Have never had to use the shock feature. People has even went swimming with it on. - I love this product.
Top Negative Reviews
- I liked it while it worked but it quit working after 6 months. I did not purchase a warranty, too bad, eh?
- This collar will confuse your dog more than help. The sleep mode kicks in and does not wake up. Make sure to use with a tone in close range. The range claim is not even close. I am lucky to get 100ft. I also don’t trust it if not in war shot because it will go into sleep mode and not be effective unless I physically press the button again. Well back to looking for a good collar.

- Started using this the day after we purchased it. We have a very barky 2 year old sheltie. We live in a neighborhood and we couldn’t let her out in the yard because of her constant barking. She barks at airplanes flying over head, a distant train whistle, birds, butterflies, leaves russling in the breeze, a friendly neighborhood squirrel, neighbors talking in their yards, cars on the street. She has a hair trigger bark and the slightest thing gets her going. Even watching TV was a challenge because she barks at any sudden load noise or action that happens. We never wanted to use one of these collars because we thought it might be cruel. But finally we decided to try one because we were always yelling at her to be quiet and aside from her walks she couldn’t get much play time in the yard. All I can say is we should have done this a long time ago. It’s static vibration and not a shock. I tried it on my palm to see how it would feel still not wanting to hurt her. It doesn’t hurt. It’s a strange feeling vibration. And it gets her attention. We just put the collar on and when she barks we say ‘no barking’ and press the button. We have it on level 5, a low level, and that works for her. She may start to bark but after just a few reminders, no barking and press the button, she doesn’t bark. Today was the first time she ran out into the back yard and didn’t even bark. I think she realizes when I put the collar on she’s not supposed to bark! So I think this is a great product. I got the lite model and 100 yards. Even with her thicker sheltie coat it works just fine!
- Beau is a 7 month old mini Goldendoodle weighing 12 lbs and way too smart for us. Our last 2 dogs were Jack Russell Terriers, they were easy compared to Beau! We know dogs need a schedule and attention, lots of time to run free, and play. We have used Invisible Fence in the past and the Pet Safe Wireless Fence made by Invisable Fence . We found the Wireless Fence was not the best choice for Beau and decided to call the PetSafe Company. The representative was very helpful as I described in specific needs for this dog and asked what could we do. He recommended the PetSafe Dog Training Collar and it is great. We use is to keep Beau close to us outside, stop unwanted barking, or eliminate any unwanted behaviour. I love this product. It is the best!
- Got this to replace our old shock collar. We have been using this brand for 11 years now. Very reliable. Love the updated design of the remote, makes it easy to tell what button you are pressing without looking at it with the raised symbols on the buttons.

- This was the second collar we purchased of this kind from Pet Safe. Both times the remote stopped being able to charge. Once it did charge, it had to be recharged each night. It tended to lose it’s charge quickly. Returned 2nd one and are going to find a different one.
- I wasn’t aware static was just a nice way to say shock. This thing hurt. I have a literal shock watch to get me out of bed in the morning (due to a traumatic brain injury) and on level 7 this collar hurt worse than the highest setting on my shock watch, which is unbearable, this is just cruel.

What to Consider when Purchasing a Training Collar for Stubborn Dog
When choosing a training collar for your stubborn dog, there are several factors you’ll need to consider. This includes the dog’s age, size, and temperament, as well as your own training goals. You’ll also need to decide whether you want a remote or static collar, and finally, consider the budget. With all these factors in mind, choosing a suitable training collar for your stubborn dog should be a breeze!
The Dog’s Age
Your dog’s age is an important consideration when buying a training collar. A young, energetic dog may be more challenging to train than an older, more docile dog. If you have a stubborn dog, you may need to invest in a more expensive, high-quality training collar to get the desired results.
The Dog’s Size
If you have a stubborn dog, you may consider buying a training collar specifically designed for larger dogs. These collars typically have thicker straps and more robust hardware, which can help ensure your dog stays safe and secure while wearing them. Additionally, these collars usually come with various settings and options, so you can find one that best suits your dog’s needs.
The Dog’s Temperament
When choosing a training collar for your dog, it is essential to consider the dog’s temperament. If your dog is very stubborn and needs a lot of discipline, you may want to consider a training collar that will give them a little more of a ‘shock’ when they disobey. However, if your dog is relatively well-behaved and needs a little bit of help with obedience, a regular collar should suffice. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what training collar is best for your dog based on its personality and needs.
Your Training Goals
There are several factors to consider before purchasing a training collar for your stubborn dog. The first is to consider the overall training goals you have for your dog. What behaviors do you hope to change or modify? Once you know what specific behaviors you wish to target, you can begin narrowing down your collar options.
There are many different training collars available on the market, each with its unique set of features. Choosing a collar that will be effective for the specific behavior you’re trying to address is essential. For example, if your goal is to stop your dog from pulling on the leash, then a no-pull harness or headcollar might be better than a standard buckle collar.
Another important consideration is your dog’s individual temperament and sensitivities. Some dogs may be more responsive to certain types of collars than others. If you’re unsure about which kind of collar is best for your dog, consult a professional trainer or behaviorist for guidance.
With so many different training collars on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for your stubborn dog. But by taking the time to consider your goals and your dog’s individual needs, you can find a collar that will help you achieve success in your training endeavors.
Training modes
Different training collar has different training modes. Such as static training collars are the most effective type of training collars, as they allow you to adjust the stimulation level to suit your dog’s reactivity and behavior. While shock collars are controversial, they can be an effective tool in training your dog.
Range
The proper range for your dog’s training collar will depend on the specific behavior you are trying to train them to do. If you are trying to stop your dog from barking in the backyard, then a shorter range of 300 feet may be sufficient. However, if you are hoping to train your dog to be off-leash, then a range of 1,000 feet or more would be ideal. Ultimately, it is important to consider what behavior you are hoping to achieve before choosing the appropriate range for your dog’s training collar.
Whether You Want a Remote or Static Collar
There are two types of training collars for dogs: remote and static.
Deciding which type is best for your dog will depend on their personality and level of stubbornness.
Static Collar
A static collar may be all you need if your dog is relatively easy to train. Static collars deliver a brief, mild shock when the leash is pulled, or the button is pressed. This type of collar is often used with verbal commands and positive reinforcement, such as treats.
Remote Collar
A remote collar may be necessary for dogs that are more stubborn or resistant to training. Remote collars allow you to deliver a shock at a distance of up to 300 yards, which can be helpful when your dog runs off or ignores commands. The shock from a remote collar is usually more substantial than a static collar, so it’s essential to use them only as a last resort.
Regardless of your type of training collar, be sure to use it consistently and never for punishment. Dogs are quick to learn when they are being rewarded or punished, so it’s important to be consistent in using the collar. Training collars can be an effective way to train your dog, but only when used correctly.
Budget
It is essential to consider your budget when buying a training collar for a stubborn dog. There are many different types and brands of training collars on the market, so you will want to ensure you find one that fits your needs and budget. You do not want to overspend on a training collar that will not be effective in helping your dog learn obedience. Conversely, you also don’t want to purchase a cheaply made collar that could break easily or cause your dog discomfort. Research online or talk to other pet owners to get an idea of what type of training collar would be best for your stubborn dog and your budget.
FAQs
Q: Do dog trainers recommend shock collars for stubborn dogs?
While there are a variety of opinions on the matter, many dog trainers recommend shock collars for stubborn dogs who seem unresponsive to other forms of training. Shock collars can be an effective way to train a dog, but it is vital to use them properly and not overuse them, as this can cause undue stress and anxiety. Used correctly, however, shock collars can be a helpful tool in training a stubborn dog.
Q: What is the best dog collar for stubborn dogs?
The best dog collar for a stubborn dog will vary depending on the individual dog’s personality and behavior. However, some good options for stubborn dogs include martingale collars, prong collars, and e-collars. Each type of collar has its advantages and disadvantages, so choosing the one that will work best for your dog is crucial. Talk to your veterinarian or a professional dog trainer if you are unsure which type of collar is best for your dog.
Q: How do you train a stubborn dog with a shock collar?
One way to train a stubborn dog with a shock collar is to start at a low level and gradually increase the level until the dog responds. You may also need to use a higher level for a stubborn dog than you would for a less stubborn dog. Another way to train a stubborn dog with a shock collar is to reward the dog for good behavior—this will help teach the dog that it can get positive reinforcement for behaving well. Finally, be consistent with your commands and rewards, and don’t give up—stubborn dogs can be challenging to train, but it’s important to persevere.
Q: How much does a stubborn dog’s training collar cost?
Stubborn dogs can be challenging to train, but using a training collar can be an effective way to help manage their behavior. Training collars come in various styles and prices, so it’s essential to consider your options before purchasing. Generally speaking, training collars for stubborn dogs starts around $40 and can range up to $200 or more. Factors that will affect the cost of a training collar include:
- The features offered.
- The size and weight of the dog.
- The retailer you purchase from.
When choosing a training collar for your stubborn dog, select one that is comfortable for them to wear and that offers the features you need to help with their training.
Q: Do shock collars work for training stubborn dogs?
The jury is still out on whether or not shock collars are effective for training dogs. Some dog owners swear by them, while others find them cruel. If you’re considering using a shock collar to train your dog, it’s essential to research and consult a professional trainer to see if this type of training is right for your pet.
Q: Do static collars work for training stubborn dogs?
Static collars can work for training stubborn dogs, but they may not be the most effective method. If you are considering using a static collar, consult a professional trainer to see if it is the right option for your dog. Other training methods may be more effective for stubborn dogs, so it is essential to find the right approach for your pet. You can help your stubborn dog learn new behaviors and become a well-behaved pet with patience and consistent training.
Q: Do remote collars work for training stubborn dogs?
Yes, remote collars can work for training stubborn dogs. However, it is essential to note that every dog is different and will respond differently to training with a remote collar. Some dogs may require more patience and positive reinforcement to learn, while others may be more responsive to negative reinforcement (such as using a shock collar). Ultimately, it is up to the owner to decide what training method is best for their dog. If you are considering using a remote collar to train your dog, we recommend consulting with a professional trainer or behaviorist first to get started.
Q: What to do if your dog doesn’t react to shock collar training?
If your dog isn’t responding to shock collar training, you can try a few things.
- First, ensure that the collar is fitted correctly and that the electrodes are in contact with your dog’s skin. If the collar isn’t fitted correctly or the electrodes aren’t in contact with your dog’s skin, the collar won’t work properly.
- Second, try using a different type of stimulation, such as a vibrating collar or a citronella spray collar. Some dogs respond better to different types of stimulation than others.
- Third, ensure you are using the correct stimulation level for your dog. Please start with the lowest stimulation level and increase it gradually until your dog responds.
- Fourth, consult a professional trainer or behaviorist if you’re still having trouble.
This can help you troubleshoot the problem and find a solution that works for your dog.
Q: How do you train a stubborn dog with an e-collar?
One of the best ways to train a stubborn dog with an e-collar is by using positive reinforcement. This means rewarding your dog for good behavior instead of punishing them for bad behavior. For example, if your dog listens to you and follows your commands, you can give them a treat or praise them verbally. However, if they disobey you or are uncooperative, you can use the e-collar to provide them with a mild shock that will startle them into submission. It is essential only to use this method as a last resort, as it can damage your relationship with your dog if used excessively.
Q: What collar is best to stop pulling?
Some people prefer a gentle leader or head collar, while others find a standard leash and collar work just fine. Ultimately, it depends on what works best for you and your dog. If you have trouble deciding which collar to use, consult a professional trainer or behaviorist for assistance.
